Intro to Ashtanga
explore the 8 limbs of yoga
with Valerie Scheunemann, RYT500
Saturday, August 8th
1-4pm
$45
Want to go beyond the asana, and take your practice deeper? This workshop will explore the 8-limb system of Ashtanga yoga! Asana (the physical postures you’re familiar with from your weekly yoga classes) is just 1 of the 8 limbs… intrigued? Read on…
This workshop will offer an exploration into the 8-limbs of yoga, what they are and how they apply on and off the mat. We will breakdown the method of Ashtanga Yoga, discuss the differences between Mysore style vs guided practice and the benefits of each. We will dissect key aspects of the practice (Tristhana Method, Surya Namaskar, Foundational Asanas, Build a Better Chaturanga, Adaptations/Modifications and more), dismantle Dogma by shedding light on the shadowy side of the lineage and discuss how to honor yoga’s roots and traditions while staying true to ourselves.
Build a sustainable practice that fits into YOUR life and genuinely serves and supports you!
This workshop is open to ALL!
About our facilitator:
Valerie Scheunemann, 500 RYT; Licensed Aesthetician; Reiki III
Valerie began her journey into yoga in the dawn of 2004. It was like a blinking marquis in the periphery of her mind kept nudging her to explore this path. Riddled with stress and overcome with anxiety, she heeded the call of her intuition and set forth on the path, despite the stiffness in her body. The union of breath and intentional movement immediately transformed the way she moved through life and thus set her on a trajectory of self-healing. This journey has continued to blossom into various outlets in the healing arts like Reiki, Bodywork and Aesthetics.
In 2012, she discovered Ashtanga Yoga. This sacred practice has reshaped her discipline and has radically shifted the way Valerie shows up for herself and for life overall. Since embarking on this spiritual quest, she has completed several yoga teacher trainings and currently holds a 500 hr RYT. Valerie has studied under the keen eye of David Garrigues (and other amazing teachers) and has also completed several apprenticeships in the Ashtanga Yoga Method. She continues to pursue continuing education to deepen her knowledge and refine the offerings she can share with others.
Valerie is eternally grateful to all of you for showing up for yourselves and she finds deep fulfillment in holding space for others as they stoke the flames of their inner transformation through the sacred practice of yoga.
